Add America Decides: US Presidential Election to your watchlist

How would you describe the campaign so far?

Utterly chaotic. I have four boys between eight and 15, so I couldn’t manage without an incredibly forgiving husband. He does everything.

Your most jaw-dropping moment?

The first attempt to assassinate Trump. We’d snuck away for the weekend to a lake in Virginia. I was in my swimming costume when my 15-year-old called out: “Mum! Someone’s just tried to kill Donald Trump!”

Can you ever switch off?

On a Saturday I’m the all-American soccer mom but my phone is constantly buzzing. If something happens, I hoof it to the nearest airport. I practically live in drive-throughs.

When will the election be over for you? Do you have a holiday booked before the 20 January inauguration?

Oh God, no, not with Trump already signalling that if it’s lost, it’s stolen. People are predicting chaos and localised violence.

Do you get much social media abuse?

An awful lot on X. If you ask a challenging question at a Trump event, you’ll get screamed at for being “fake media”.

Can US politics ever reset to the calmer previous ways?
