You wanted to be a Traitor. Were you disappointed you didn’t get the chance?

I’m gutted. I can’t believe I went out so early. When I first saw the letter from the Traitors, I thought I was being recruited. I told Claudia I wanted to be a Traitor because I had been lying about liking my wife’s spaghetti bolognese for 35 years, but she said that’s not a good enough reason. When my wife watched the episode and found out, I nearly got murdered again! But she’s forgiven me.

We had our first all-female Traitors trio in this series. Do you think men or women make better Traitors?

Women. That saying “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” is true. They’re more calculated. They don’t care who they tread on or get rid of in the game.

You have a black belt in taekwondo and we saw some of your moves in the series. Why did you keep that a secret from everyone?

I didn’t want to mention it because, to achieve that, you’ve got to be focused and take everything in your stride, keep calm and not panic. I got my black belt ten years ago. When my son joined taekwondo, the instructor asked if I also wanted to. He said, “You’re never too old,” and that’s true with anything in life, even with joining The Traitors.

How would you describe your time in the castle?

It was one of the best experiences of my life – apart from my children being born. Between my wife and me, we have seven children and 15 grandchildren, with a little girl born just at the end of December. She doesn’t realise that her grandad has been murdered! I’ll tell her about it when she’s older.
